Rodolfo Stavenhagen, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights
and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people, highlighted development
projects that had impinged on indigenous rights, forcing indigenous people
to move elsewhere, struggling for their cultural and economic survival.
Noting that such projects had negatively affected the long-term health of
indigenous peoples, and even led to violence, he added that solutions must
be found for those and other issues. |
