I am Joao Davi Yanomama, from Paapiu. I am from the States Roraima, Boa Vista.

I live in the middle of the Rainforest.

I will speak my language, Yanomami, now… [speaks in Yanomama, not translated] [continues in Portuguese]

Ok, how to translate in Portuguese?

I suffered to arrive here, and nearly did not make it.

Some people helped me to arrive and participate in this gathering.  For me very important, so I came bringing lots of problems from my community… and the whole Yanomami territory in general…

You here, as very big authorities, I came bringing some messages from my peoples Yanomami, from Venezuela and from Brazil.

And how it is very strange where we live – because we all live in the Forest,

and all together… together with our earth.

Year 84 we were hit and were invaded in our forest from some “no Indians”…no Indio Yanomami… no, were miners.

And our Rivers were made to be contaminated!

And our fishes were made to be contaminated also.

And also our game was destroyed because of the noise of airplane and machines.

Today, like this it continues… the pollution, our rivers, our fishes, …until us also!

Today, also we Yanomami continue to be contaminated from the mining.

Today, these strange things are happening.

Because of this I came here to talk to you very big authorities:

It is not only ours, our forest, we Yanomami are also suffering very much, that’s why I came, all our forests were destroyed from white man - that’s why I came to bring it here to this big gathering.  I have seen a lot since I came here, I heard the spoken name New York. Now I am very satisfied to explain about my community from the territory Yanomami , and in general. I would like also very much to explain that some whites are helping, and that the Funai (Governmental Office of Indian Affairs) doesn’t let them help, in Boa Vista, in Brazil, in Roraima. So, there are many things which dont help… this happens also with our other relatives in other communities, the ranchers are destroying very very much our forestland, together also us, also us Yanomami.

Together with our rivers also,

together with our environment also,

The whites say: “Environment.”

My idea is not “Environment,” it is “all around and in the middle” or to speak “environment intact.”

This is good; this is very good that I am doing this, so that you don’t forget:

Exist Yanomami, and in this big gathering please don’t forget: We need help… need  help!

We Yanomami want to live also!

We Yanomami want to live like this, saving our culture!

We Yanomami never left our culture!

Always guarding our culture and our languages!

This is very good, many indigenous peoples have lost their culture, but we Yanomami… we have guarded our culture… and our forests also!

We Yanomami do not want any more the destruction of our forest, and our trees.

This is very sad for us.

We lived very peaceful, without regulations, without worry…

When the whites come they only destroy the rivers, fishes, earth, and everything, until also the Yanomami.

Because of that, you have to see us also.

Not only the Yanomami territory, also territory of our Yanomami relatives from Venezuela, where the river Orinoco is born.

It is this why I came to bring also, the relatives from Venezuela are suffering also, with ranchers, mining and these things.

It is this which I came bringing, for the whole Amazons!

All relatives from the Amazons, and simply all will be shared and informed, not only us Yanomami want to be treated and nobody else, this is what we want, we all want that I bring this to here. 

Will it be possible that somebody will help Yanomami?

It is, we need the help, and this is what I came to bring where the authority exists.

Good, this is what I wanted to represent my peoples Yanomami.

It was a pleasure, I am very happy about this gathering. Only this, thank you very much.

Bom, como traduzir , em Portuguese?

Sofri para chegar ate aqui ,e quase que nao  vinha mais  .Varias pessoas que me ajuadaram  para me chagar atte aqui e participar em  deste encontro. Para mim e muito importante…. entao eu vinho trazindos muitos problemas da minha comunidade…. e  todos territorios Yanomami  em geral.    

Voces  aqui como autoridades muito grandes , eu venho trazendo umas mensagens  para meu povo Yanomami, da Venezuela e do Brasil,

 E como entao  muito estranho a onde a gente moro – qui a gente mora na floresta, e tudo junto…com a nossa terra.

Ano 84 ja foi atingido e foi enviado a nossa floresta por uma “nao indio” …. nao Indio Yanomami ….nao , do…seja garimpages,,

 e os nossos rios estao sendo contaminados!

e os nossos peixes tambem, estao sendo contaminados tambem!

e tambem  nossas casas foram avastaram por causa de barulho de aviao e maquinarios.

Ate hoje assim continua isso poluido, nossas peixes, nossas rios,

ate nos tambem!

Ate hoje Yanomamis tambem estamos  contaminados pela garrimpagem.

Ate hoje todo estes distrui por issto eu vem ate aqui.

Ate hoje esta contecendo esses estranhos

Por issso vim ate aqui e dizer para voces autoridades muito grandes:.

Nao e nosso so a floresta , nos Yanomami estamos tambem sofrendo muito ,

porque eu fui… nossos floresta foi destruido por homems brancos -por isso eu venho trazendo aqui neste encontro grande .

Eu tenho muito conhecer ate aqui, eu ouvi falar  nome Nova York ,

Agora eu estou muito contente explicando a minha comunidade do territorio Yanomami  , e em geral .Eu gostaria muito tambem explicar  tambem uns brancos ajudam ,sempre, e a Funai qui nao deixa fazer de ajuda ,em Brasil, em Boa Vista ,em Roraima.

Entao muitas coisas que nao ajude ….acontece tambem com nossos outros parentes da comunidades, os fazendeiros  estao destruidos muito   -muito nossas floresta,- junto com nos  ,Yanomami tambem.

Junto com nossos rios tambem!

O branco fala” meio ambiente “…a minha ideia nao e: “meio ambiente”,

e “meia””

como dizer e : “ambiente inteira” !

Isso e bom ,muito bom que eu estou fazendo isso aqui,,para voces nao esquecerem : Existe Yanomami e em este grande encontro , nao se esquece por favor :

Nos precisamos de ajuda, precisamos de ajuda! 

Nos Yanomami  queremos viver bem tambem!

Nos Yanomami queremos viver assim , segurando a nossa cultura,!

Nos Yanomami nunca deixaran a nossa cultura!

Sempre guardando a nossa cultura e nossa linguages!

Isso e muito bom ,muitos indigenas perderam sua cultura, mas nos Yanomami,  nos guardaremos nossa culturas  - e a nossa floresta tambem,!

Nos Yanomami, nao queremos nem destruir mais a nossa floresta, e arvores !

-isso  e muito triste pra nos.

Nos vivem muito tranquilo sem instrucao sem preocupacoes…. quando os branco chega so faz destruir o rio,  peixe,, terra , e tudo, ate Yanomami tambem!

Entao por isso  voces tem que olhar pra nos tambem.

E isso que eu vinha trazendo ate aqui.

Nao e so territorio Yanomami , tambem teritorio dos parentes Yanomami   da Venezuela da cabeceira do rio Orinoco

E isso que eu vinha trazendo tambem, os parentes da venezuela estao sofrendo tambem por causa de fazendeiros e garimpagem  , estes coissas . E isso que eu vinha trazendo, do todo amazonas tambem. Do Amazonas os parentes , e isso simplemente tambem vai ser informado tambem,,nao so nos Yanomamis se trataremos e nada mais , e isso que nos quer , nos quer isso eu vim trazendo isso,

Isso nos precisamos de ajuda ….isso que eu vinha trazendo isso mais onde existem  as autoridades!
