INDIGENOUS PEOPLES:
CONNECTIVITY INITIATIVES
IN THE AMERICAS

Indigenous Peoples want to ensure the survival of their nations, cultures and communities through the sharing of their knowledge for future generations. There needs to be a dialogue concerning technical and local knowledge because technology merely provides alternative options. Indigenous Peoples want to incorporate modern technology, but they do not want to lose or replace their knowledge.

The WSIS produced a Declaration of Principles: Building the Information Society: a global challenge in the new Millennium, making a global commitment for the empowerment of young people as learners, developers, contributors, entrepreneurs and decision-makers. Governments further agree to focus on young people who have not yet been able to benefit fully from the opportunities provided by ICTs.
