INDIGENOUS PEOPLES:
CONNECTIVITY INITIATIVES
IN THE AMERICAS
In most developing
countries, Indigenous Peoples constitute the poorest of the poor. In the
Americas, close to 50 million persons are Indigenous.
In the framework of the mandates of the Summits of the Americas, the
Organization of American States has assigned a critical role to that which
is referred to as the promotion and development of human resources in the
Americas. The Third Summit of the Americas, which took place in Quebec
City in 2001, produced a Declaration and Plan of Action based upon three
key themes, or baskets:
Human Rights and Democracy
Creating Prosperity
Realizing Human Potential
